For those guys with TT who plan do any track events, I suggest you read this article from Sport Compact Car regarding the coolant passages in the block, which is old i know... Link Now the article to me is a little deceptive from the stand point of it not emphasing how bad the problem really is, but it's still something you should have done none the less. Last night I dediced to remove some freeze plugs and do some porting on the coolant passages... while "inspecting" the block I noticed that the passage for the #6 cylinder was pretty much completely blocked. There was litterally a 2-3mm size hole for the coolant to pass through, the rest was all flashing. I also found a loose 3 inch piece of flashing just lying in the front coolant passages, also blocking coolant flow. Overall, all of the passages were fairly blocked by flashing, but none more serious than the rear passage, which is why I believe just that one cylinder decided to melt. I honestly don't know how the engine lasted so long, even as an NA. I'll go ahead and state my warning again for all Z32 TT's out there... If you're going to track the car at all, seriously consider having your block inspected. Otherwise this could be your piston:
